The company, a subsidiary of Parker Ranch, is exploring ways to provide lower cost power for Kohala.
According to a press release from the company, pumped-storage hydro power could provide up to five hours of firm energy.
That process involves wind and solar energy being used to pump water to a reservoir. When released during the evening, the water could generate power, helping reduce the need for fossil fuel generators.
