New chief for Hilo AYSO
Longtime soccer coach and referee Troy Keolanui is the new head coach administrator for AYSO Hilo Region 274.
First volunteering in 1995, Keolanui will be conducting several coaching clinics with the main goal to improve player development within the philosophies of AYSO: balanced teams, everyone playing, positive coaching, open registration, good sportsmanship and player development, according to a release.
There are presently over 400 children signed up to play in nine age groups from age 4 to 18.
The fall season is scheduled to start Saturday.

HGEA tennis
fun day on tap
A Hawaii Government Employees Association tennis fun day is scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Edith Kanaka’ole Multipurpose Stadium.
HGEA members and their guests are invited to participate in social tennis doubles.
Tennis balls will be provided.

Vulcans welcome
new Hall class
Former athletic director Bill Trumbo, former tennis player Arthur Santos and former softball pitcher Leo Sing Chow will be inducted into the Vulcans Athletic Hall of Fame on Aug. 27.
A ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Nani Mau Gardens. Reservations for the $50 per person event can be made by calling HOF coordinator Joey Estrella at 895-5977.
Corporate tables of eight are also available.
HPA to host fun run/dog walk
Hawaii Preparatory Academy invites runners, walkers, friendly canines and families to participate in the fourth Bieni 5K Fun Run and Dog Walk at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 on the school’s cross country course.
Bieni Kohler-Johnson, who graduated from HPA in 1983, died in June 2009 after a battle against breast cancer.
All net proceeds from the event will fund the annual Bieni Kohler-Johnson ’83 Scholarship at HPA. Registration and pledges are available online at flpregister.com/102.
Entry fee is $25 for adults, $10 for students 10 and under, with a late fee of an additional $10 after Sept. 9. All preregistered participants are guaranteed a shirt and goodie bag.
The entry fee for dogs is $10 and includes dog goodies in the owner’s goodie bag. There will be a special “Top Dog” award for the first dog to cross the finish line. For more information, contact Liz Noetzel at 989-9100 or hparace@gmail.com.
HI-PAL sign-ups
HI-PAL is seeking teams interested in playing in “Click It or Ticket” 5-on-5 basketball tournaments Aug. 30-31 at Papaikou Gym and Sept. 12-14 at Waiakea Uka Gym.
Teams in the 5-6 division and 7-8 division are wanted for the August tournament, and in the 9-10 division and 11-12 division for the September tournament. Deadline to enter and submit all completed forms to participate in the tournament is Sept. 1.
The age cut-off for the tournaments is Dec. 31, 2014. Players are allowed to play on one team per division.
All HI-PAL roster, waiver and seat belt forms are required for participation.
