Disaster Assistance and Recovery Centers (DARCs) open today to provide information and services to people whose property was damaged when Tropical Storm Iselle made landfall.
The DARCs will open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. today and Friday at Pahoa Community Center, 15-2910 Puna Road, and 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Mountain View Gym, 18-1345 A Volcano Road.
State and county agencies along with not-for-profit, non-governmental agencies will be on hand at the DARCs to provide information about available services.
Information gathered from visitors to the DARCs will help HI-EMA and Hawaii County evaluate whether the criteria for a federal disaster declaration has been met.
For more information about the DARCs, contact Hawaii Emergency Management Agency at (808) 733-4300 or askcivildefense@scd.hawaii.gov.
And the county Department of Environmental Management said Wednesday it’s waiving tipping fees for commercial rubbish operators hauling disaster debris from Tropical Storm Iselle.
Haulers must request the waiver form at the scale house to qualify. For more information, haulers should visit www.hawaiizerowaste.org.
