Money raised on the Big Island for the Philippine Typhoon Relief Fund is now providing water to 99 households in one of the storm-ravaged areas of the Philippines.
“The money the Hilo community raised through the collaboration of the County of Hawaii — spearheaded by Rose Bautista — and the Hilo Visayan Club — spearheaded by Ken Cameron of Hilo Guitars and Dayday Hopkins — was used to provide potable water to 99 households,” said spokesman Bernard Balsis.
The homes are in Tabang Cagayan Village, Barangay Lumbia and the City of Cagayan de Oro.
A sturdy new water tank was constructed to withstand future storm winds.
“The Big Island Visayan community thanks all who contributed to make this possible,” Balsis said.
