North Kohala author and photographer William Chillingworth will share a slide presentation from his recently published book, “’Io Lani, the Hawaiian Hawk,” at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the North Kohala Public Library.

Chillingworth will describe his efforts to find and photograph the hawk as he shares stories from the photographs in the book. North Kohala is one of the few areas of the Hawaiian Islands with a healthy resident population of the Hawaiian Hawk, the ‘Io. Even so, Chillingworth says that photographing the birds took a lot of searching and a lot of patience.

Book reviewers have called the photographs of the rare Hawaiian Hawk in their natural setting, “Astonishing.” The book was published by the University of Hawaii Press earlier this year and is available local stores, online and in the public libraries.

Chillingworth’s photographs were included in the recent Artists of Hawaii exhibit at the Honolulu Academy of Arts.
