Acclaimed ukulele wizard Jake Shimabukuro takes the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Palace Theater in Hilo.

“It’s always an early sell out, so get your seats now,” said Morgen Bahurinsky, the Palace’s operations director.

Ticket prices range from $25-$45 advance and $30-$50 the day of show, available at the Palace box office, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays. Call 934-7010 for credit card orders.

His latest recording is 2012’s “Grand Ukulele,” produced by the legendary Alan Parsons.

The CD features a 29-piece orchestra and a big-name rhythm section, including drummer Simon Phillips (The Who, Toto), top session bassist Randy Tico and Kip Winger (Winger, Alice Cooper), who helped with the orchestration.

“The best thing was that, even with all those people, we recorded everything live with no overdubs,” Shimabukuro said. “It was great, tracking live with an orchestra and a rhythm section.

“We picked up on each other’s subtle emotional cues — you could feel everyone breathing together. It was like the old days of recording, when everyone tracked together. There’s a certain magic that happens.”

“Jake is taking the instrument to a place that I can’t see anybody else catching up with.” said Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.
