Learn to use the applications to improve color, blend images introduce mood to a scene. The instructors will also offer tips about recognizing good light and composition.
Android users don’t despair. Your smartphone is welcome to join in the fun.
With the use of applications and your own creative juices, the smartphone becomes a powerful imaging tool — not just a camera.
Join instructors Ken and Mary Goodrich for Art of the iPhone, from 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 9-10 and 13, at VAC’s Niaulani Campus. Cost is $60 for VAC members and $75 for non-members.
Each session will introduce two or three new applications, along with various props and an opportunity to make portraits or images in the Niaulani forest. With the help of the instructors, students will process their images with the apps and share results with the class.
Knowledge of basic techniques for operating an iPhone, smartphone or iPad is a prerequisite for the class. Attendees are asked to bring their phone (iPhone or Android) or iPad, along with a device charger, pen and notebook. Reading glasses or other magnifying devices are sometimes helpful.
A list of apps to be downloaded for the first session will be provided by the instructors prior to the workshop.
Residents of Volcano, Ken and Mary Goodrich are renowned professional photographers. Their company, Hawaii Photo Retreat, has offered photo tours and instruction on the Big Island since 2006.
