HONOLULU (AP) — A Molokai man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for an investment fraud scheme.
The FBI says a federal judge in Honolulu on Monday also sentenced David “Kawika” Buchanan to three years of supervised release, 100 hours of community services and to pay $55,000 in restitution to his victims.
A charging document says 47-year-old Buchanan represented himself as a financial manager, but instead of investing funds he spent them on personal travel, an online video game and an online girlfriend in the Philippines.
Prosecutors accused Buchanan of delaying a victim from reporting the abuse by emailing false claims that her investment money was on its way.
He pleaded guilty in May.
He’s ordered to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on Sept. 29.
