The Hilo Community Chorus, under the direction of Maestro Tom McAlexander, is an all-volunteer group open to all who love to sing. There are no auditions, and the only requirements are a love of singing and attendance at the weekly rehearsals.

Rehearsals for this year’s Christmas concert kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, in the rehearsal room in the music building at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Members of this dynamic chorus come from all sorts of backgrounds and levels of experience and talent. Under McAlexander, members of the chorus have had the opportunity to travel — at their own expense — and perform across the world.

Each year in December, the Community Chorus presents a Christmas concert of old favorite holiday songs, along with new and modern ones.

There is also a yearly spring concert. For both performances, the chorus welcomes several professional and semi-professional singers to join forces.

The music building is behind the UHH Theater. For more information, call McAlexander at 985-7192 or email tommac@hawaii.rr.com.
