The University of Hawaii at Hilo cross country race is slated for Saturday on the Naniloa Golf Course.
The women’s race starts at 8 a.m. followed by the men. Both races will be 5k.
Along with the host, participating in the women’s race are the University of Alaska Anchorage, Brigham Young University-Hawaii, Chaminade Unviersity, Hawaii Pacific University and Messiah College. The men’s race includes Alaska Anchorage, BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific and Messiah.
This is the first race of the 2014 Vulcans schedule that includes the University of Hawaii Big Wave (Sept. 6), BYU-Hawaii Invitational (Sept. 20), Chaminade Invitational (Oct. 11), Hawaii Pacific Invitational (Oct. 25) and the Pacific West Conference Championship (Nov. 7) in Fresno, Calif.
Running for the Vulcans are senior Jordan Concannon; junior Nina Kapuni; sophomores Brenna Halverson, Kaylee Rapoza, Shelby Tanaka and Megan Washburn; and freshmen June Garrett and Anna Mikkelsen.
Entering his 16th season coach Jaime Guerpo is assisted by Alan Ryan.
