Ka‘u senior Cy Tamura scored three touchdowns Saturday night as the Trojans spoiled Kohala’s debut in eight-man Big Island Interscholastic Federation football, winning 34-12 in Pahala.
Tamura, a senior, caught a touchdown pass from Jordan DeRamos in the second quarter and added two touchdown runs in the second half.
Ka’u took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter on Kaimanu Medeiros-Dancel’s 13-yard run and a two-point conversion pass from DeRamos to Tamura.
Kupono Palakiko-Leffew added a safety as Ka’u led 16-0 at halftime.
Kohala’s Isaiah Villacorte accounted for both of his team’s touchdowns. The junior put the Cowboys on the board in the third quarter with a 75-yard kickoff return, and he closed out the scoring on a fourth-quarter run.
