Hawaiian Telcom said in a statement Wednesday crews discovered vandalism of its fiber cables in Kapoho.
The company said copper theft is suspected and a police report was filed.
Hawaiian Telcom said its crews worked during the Labor Day holiday weekend and fewer than 200 customers are still without service, primarily in Nanawale Estates, where crews now have begun to repair damaged cables.
Theft of copper is a Class C felony in Hawaii punishable by five years in prison.
Hawaiian Telcom urges the public to report suspicious activity to police by dialing 911 or by calling Hawaiian Telcom security at 643-7111.
