A special event — “Iselle — A Day of Mindfulness: Storm Recovery Meditation Day” — is scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in Hawaiian Paradise Park.
Hosted by Marty Mimmack, M.Ed., who has been following the teachings of Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) since 2004, the event is based on Thay’s books, talks and the tradition of “Engaged Buddhism.”
“Mindfulness, however, is widely regarded as a universal practice beneficial to all. I invite you to join me on the path of personal freedom, peace and joy,” Mimmack said. For more details, email admiplace@yahoo.com or call 315-7285. Cost is $15.
“Iselle wreaked havoc across big areas of our island. Nevertheless, our sacred loyal protectors, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, stood motionless, silent and solid as they took the breath out of her at the last second,” Mimmack said. “Iselle was a seminal event for East Hawaii residents and the impacts may be hard to shake. This half day of mindfulness is to reflect on our blessings, to calm down, recover, and to seek refuge from the traumatic devastation, emotional turmoil and financial distress.”
