Police have charged a 23-year-old Kailua-Kona man for a laundry room break-in in Kona.

At 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a report of an in-progress burglary at a condominium complex located at the 5800 block of Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona and saw a man carrying a backpack fleeing from the laundry room.

After a short foot pursuit officers arrested Ian Medeiros of Kailua-Kona. Police say the laundry room had been forcibly entered, equipment damaged and coins removed from locked containers.

Medeiros was charged Wednesday with burglary, criminal property damage, theft, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest, methamphetamine trafficking, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bail was set at $64,000 and his initial court appearance was scheduled for Thursday.
