The East Hawaii Regional Board (EHRB) of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation announces Jennifer Leilani Zelko-Schlueter is its newest member. The 12-member board is responsible for governing Hilo Medical Center, Hale Ho’ola Hamakua, Ka’u Hospital and 12 general and specialty outpatient clinics.
“Our directors welcome Jennifer aboard and we look forward to her participation in our efforts to maintain and raise East Hawaii’s high standards of accessible quality care,” said Gary Yoshiyama, East Hawaii Regional Board chair.
“In the short time we have gotten to know ‘who’ Jennifer Zelko is, we have found she is deeply rooted in our community, committed to our mission and vision, and enthusiastically learning and fulfilling her director responsibilities.”
“My husband and I feel blessed to be able to raise our children in this wonderful community where I grew up,” said Zelko-Schlueter. “This is why I am honored to serve on a team that will help ensure quality health care continues for our Hawaii Island ohana.”
Zelko-Schlueter is currently thedirector of government, community and media relations at Hawaii Electric Light Co. Prior to joining HELCO, she was an attorney at the law firm Torkildson, Katz, Moore, Hetherington &Harris, AAL, ALC. She first began her law career with the law firm Carlsmith Ball, LLP. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Hawaii at Hilo in psychology and her Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga University School of Law.
She serves on numerous boards, including the University of Hawaii at Hilo Alumni &Friends, Na Leo ‘O Hawaii and the YWCA of Hawaii Island Operations Committee. She is also a member of the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, Hawaii County Bar Association and Hawaii State Bar Association. Jennifer was born and raised in Hilo. She is married to Chris Schlueter. They have two children, Logan and Kate.
