Hawaii Community College and the State of Hawaii Workforce Development Division continue to collaborate in offering free Individualized Career Achievement Network (iCAN) workshops in Waimea, Pahala and Hilo. Designed for anyone interested in improving reading, writing, math and workplace skills, the iCAN workshops are a fast-paced way for employees and job seekers to improve their employability skills.
Open free to anyone over 18, with or without a high school diploma, these self-paced iCAN workshops prepare students for the workforce as they pursue a National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The NCRC has been recognized as the most effective strategy for certifying workplace skills and predicting workplace success. Over one million certificates have been issued and more than 40 states have statewide or regional certificate programs. Over 40 Hawaii Island residents have already achieved the NCRC through this program.
“I am really enjoying all of it. The teachers are great!” said one iCAN trainee. “I am looking forward to taking the NCRC exam. I am really ready for it! I will encourage others to check this program out to improve their job skills.”

These workshops are made available through a grant awarded under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grants (C3T), as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
The grant will fuel the development of education and training curriculum and student academic/career coaching, which targets certificate and degree programs specific to the needs of agriculture, energy and health industries. These industry-focused, employer-driven programs are designed to increase college completion rates and provide job opportunities to the C3T participants.
