“The gift of manpower and time is extremely helpful to ensure that we are able to better focus our resources to providing patient care,” said Hospice of Hilo CEO Brenda S. Ho. “We are so very grateful for the volunteers from Easter Seals Hawaii.”
The 14,140-square-foot inpatient care center was completed and opened in 2012. The care center features 12 private suites, each with its own lanai that looks out onto the garden.
“A lot of planning and details went into the care center to ensure that it would be a place where individuals and families could really feel at home, find comfort and live better,” Ho said.
The care center also is home to the newly launched Hawaii Palliative Care Center, the only one of its kind on Hawaii Island.
“We’re continually seeking volunteer assistance of any service groups or individuals who are willing and able to provide weekly or monthly manpower to assist in beautifying the grounds at the Pohai Malama Care Center,” said Hospice of Hilo Facility Manager Gilbert Sampaia.
