The Hawaiian Acres Community Association hosted a grand opening event Sept. 13 for its new Saturday Farmers Market Gathering.
The project will help local farmers and backyard hobbyists connect, exchange products and share ideas about sustainability on the Big Island.
“The devastation brought about by our recent tropical storm, and now the course of the June 27 lava flow serve to illustrate, only too vividly, the importance of this project,” said an association spokesman.
The county granted a special use permit to the association to allow the new activity at the HA Community Center ballfield at Road 8 and C Road.
