The Big Island Ukulele Guild’s “Ukes Only: A Mini Concert” will be presented at Hilo Shark’s Coffee from 6-9 p.m. on Friday. The evening will include a drawing for a free ukulele and performances by Tiana Malone Jennings, Volcano School seventh-grader Jade Malia, Mike Perdue and more.
This evening is in celebration of the Ukulele Guild’s 10th annual Handmade Instruments Exhibit at Wailoa Center throughout the month of October. The show formally opens Friday, Oct. 3, from 5-8 p.m. A drawing for a free ukulele will also take place at the opening.
The Ukulele Guild is comprised of members from across the island who build by hand either recreationally or professionally.
The exhibit, which features over 40 handmade ukuleles, will also be complemented by ceramic work by Volcano artist Tim Freeman, whose large pit-fired vessels are partially inspired by the volcano. Throughout October, these events will accompany the show on Saturdays from noon until 3 p.m.:
— Oct. 4: Kanikapila with Alan Hale
— Oct. 11: ukulele building demonstration
— Oct. 18: Kanikapila with Andy Andrews and Mike Perdue.
