A 30-year-old Hilo man has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an alleged robbery in July.

A 30-year-old Hilo man has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an alleged robbery in July.

Hilo Circuit Judge Glenn Hara on Wednesday ordered Shannon L.Y. Estocado to stand trial at 9 a.m. Jan. 12 before Hilo Circuit Judge Greg Nakamura.

A Hilo grand jury indicted Estocado on Aug. 20 on charges of second-degree robbery, unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle and third-degree assault.

According to police, on July 30 at about 11 a.m., Estocado entered the passenger door of a 2004 Mazda sedan and punched the driver, a 54-year-old woman, in the chest and head with a closed fist, then stole her car keys, cell phone and prescription medication and left in a brown Jeep driven by another person.

The woman was treated and released at Hilo Medical Center, and Estocado was arrested a short time later on Railroad Avenue in Hilo.

He is free on $7,250 bail.
