On Wednesday, UH announced a home-and-home football series with the Massachusetts in 2016 and ’17.
After hosting the Minutemen on Nov. 26, 2016, the Rainbow Warriors will make their farthest trip east Oct. 7, 2017, when the teams meet in Amherst, Mass.
UMass became bowl eligible in the Football Bowl Subdivision last year. It plays in the Mid-American Conference but is set to leave after the 2015 season.
Hawaii (1-3) has a bye week and will face Rice at 1 p.m. Oct. 4 in Houston.
Big West play beckons: Back in the top 25, the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team begins defense of its league title with road matches Friday at UC Davis and Saturday at UC Riverside. Each match starts at 4 p.m. and can be heard on http://www.espn1420am.com.
No. 25 Hawaii (8-3) and Cal Davis (5-8) split last season, with the Wahine losing a five-setter on the road. UH has never lost to Riverside (2-10), holding a 15-0 advantage in the series, including two sweeps last season.
UH leads all Big West teams with 3.08 blocks per set. Olivia Magill leads the league with 1.59 blocks per set, and she’s second on UH with 3.15 kills per set.
UH vs UH: Before beginning its league soccer slate, the Rainbow Wahine host their alumnae match at 5 p.m. Saturday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oahu.
Olympic gold medalist Natasha Kai will play for the alumnae.
