HONOLULU (AP) — The Hawaii chapter of the American Red Cross said a disaster truck was stolen from its Honolulu office.
The Red Cross said the white 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup truck was stolen sometime early Thursday from their office on Diamond Head Road.
A police report was filed for the stolen truck, which has Red Cross logos on it.
Another Red Cross truck was stolen in Hilo last month as Hurricane/Tropical Storm Iselle approached the Big Island. It was later found with the logos painted over. It’s the island’s only emergency truck and is being used for post-storm recovery efforts in hard-hit Puna, where residents are now bracing for approaching lava.
Red Cross officials worry those who stole the truck might be posing as Red Cross staff or volunteers.
