If you want to learn to paint like Pollock or Matisse, don’t take “Process Painting.”

If you want to learn to paint like Pollock or Matisse, don’t take “Process Painting.”

Those who have taken Patricia Hoban’s class will tell you it’s not about being good — it’s about being in the moment. Students of “Process Painting” also will tell you the process is the goal. In other words, it’s not the destination, it’s the journey.

“Process Painting” is an active meditation with vibrant paint and brushes. The process encourages students to experiment, explore, discover and play through painting.

Volcano Art Center is again pleased to offer “Process Painting” with Patricia Hoban. The workshop is slated for 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at VAC’s Niaulani Campus. No previous art education or painting experience is necessary to experience “Process Painting.” Cost is $60.

Hoban has a degree in fine arts and education. She has a masters in pastoral studies from Seattle University for her work as a prison chaplain. She studied process painting at the Center for Creative Exploration in San Francisco, and has been facilitating process painting workshops since 2005.

The workshop will take place in Hale Ho‘omana, VAC’s education building. Please bring a lunch and drinks and wear painting clothes. For more information or to register, visit www.volcanoartcenter.org or call 967-8222.
