Bayfront Highway in Hilo is closed to traffic between Pauahi Street and Waianuenue Avenue because of high surf and might be closed through the weekend, depending on surf conditions.
The public also is advised that because of the KWXX Downtown Hoolaulea block party, portions of Kamehameha Avenue will be blocked between 5 a.m. today and 3 a.m. Sunday.
Motorists will be directed to use Waianuenue to Kinoole Street.
Police recommend commercial vehicles use Wainaku Avenue near Alae Cemetery to access and exit downtown Hilo and thank the public for its patience.
