The Honokaa Art Exhibit continues as Patrick O’Kiersey’s work stays on exhibit at the old Hasegawa Store in Honokaa. Rooms full of large, colorful oil paintings greet the viewer. Charcoal drawings show familiar places: Laupahoehoe, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
The exhibit at the Old Hasegawa Store, now called “The Pop-Up Gallery,” is on Mamane Street, across from Honokaa Peoples’ Theatre, and continues Monday through Friday, 1-6 p.m., through Oct. 3. There is excitement in Honokaa Town at the announcement of this new community enterprise, “Hamakua Harvest”— a fully integrated agricultural hub designed to benefit area producers and consumers.
The project’s interconnected activities will include a farmers’ market, learning center, demonstration farm and much more.
Its design, purpose and location at the corner of the Hawaii Belt Road (Hwy 19) and Mamane Street (Hwy 240), will reflect Hamakua’s deep agricultural nature.
Our first phase, geared to open in Spring 2015, will be an all-weather, permanent farmers’ market facility with a unique, celebratory character, reflecting the vibrant culture and history of the Hamakua region.
This venue is not only intended to fulfill the need for a new and diverse outlet for local products, but will also house weekend workshops, informational booths, and youth-focused activities, reflecting the expressed needs and interests of the community.
Your input is needed to ensure Hamakua Harvest responds to both producer and consumer needs and interests. Please take a moment to complete the consumer and/or producer survey by October 15: Online at www.hamakuaharvest.org.
