HONOLULU (AP) — There are four finalists for the vice chancellor for students position at the University of Hawaii’s Manoa campus.
The university says the finalists are scheduled to visit the campus next month.

Robert Kelly is a consultant and former vice president for student development at Loyola University in Chicago. He’ll visit Manoa Oct. 6-7.
Jan Javinar is UH’s interim associate vice president for students. Javinar’s campus visit is scheduled for Oct. 9-10.
University of Maine Vice President for Enrollment Management Jimmy Jung is visiting Oct. 13-14.
They are vying to replace Francisco Hernandez who is retiring.
No live-fire training cheered
HONOLULU (AP) — Dozens of people gathered this weekend to celebrate a decade of no live-fire training in the Makua Valley and to send a message to the military that it should remain that way.
The community group Malama Makua sued the U.S. Army in 1998 to learn what effects live-fire training had on the land and people and to find alternatives.
A 2001 court order allowed cultural access to the valley twice a month and called for an environmental review.
The Army agreed to stop live-fire training after 2004 while working on the review. The study has yet to be completed.
Army spokeswoman Stefanie Gardin said the Army will decide how to balance “stewardship of the land” with training requirements once the study is finished.
Red Cross truck found destroyed
HONOLULU (AP) — The Hawaii chapter of the American Red Cross says a disaster truck that was stolen earlier last week was found destroyed in Kunia.
The Red Cross said in a news release Saturday police found the truck in cane fields.
The white 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup truck was stolen sometime early Thursday from Red Cross office on Diamond Head Road.
Another Red Cross truck was stolen in Hilo last month as a storm approached the Big Island. It was later found with the logos painted over.
The Hilo truck is the Red Cross’ only emergency truck on the Big Island. It’s being used for post-storm recovery efforts in hard-hit Puna, where residents are now bracing for approaching lava.
