Open to the public, the Women’s Center’s program hopes to promote LGBT awareness and create an inclusive environment for everyone in the community. From last years approval of gay marriage to now, Hawaii is making strides in LGBT issues.
Here is a list of events planned for next week:
• Monday: Genderbread cookie decoration, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., CC Plaza, learn the differences between sex, gender and sexuality in this fun creative activity.
• Tuesday: Guest speaking, 6-8 p.m., CC Plaza, hear from members of the LGBT community and about their journey’s with a Q&A portion in between.
• Wednesday: 6-8 p.m., Safe Zone Training, CC Plaza, get trained on how to gain awareness about the LGBT community and how to make the campus a more inclusive environment. Walk away with a doordeck and a certificate.
• Thursday, Oct. 9: 5:30-8 p.m., LGBT Movie Night, CC Plaza; 5:30-6:30 p.m. “Dangerous Living” (this film explores the discrimination members of the LGBT community face in other cultures); 6:30-8 p.m. “G.B.F.” (this modern humorous film parodies coming out in high school and having a gay best friend).
• Friday, Oct. 10: 6-9 p.m., Drag Show, CC Plaza, experience the art of gender illusion with a drag show from the local drag community.
