Club caps season

The Big Island Auto Club’s drag racing season finished up Saturday at Hilo Drag Strip.

Bracket 2

Labor Day Drags makeup race

Winner: Ricky Fujitake, Hilo, Toyota (13.92 sec/87 mph).

Runner-up: Ian Bernard, Pahoa, Toyota (12.13/no speed recorded).

Fujitake won on a “hole” shot and better reaction time.

Fastest cars on the track: Magoo Akamine, Hilo, in a Mustang (7.65/183) and Brandon Murakami, Aiea, in a Chevy Cavalier (7.41/187).

Because of technical difficulties, Sunday’s races were cancelled. The 2015 season begins in February.

Munnerlyn is big

shot at skeet club

Mike Munnerlyn finished first at a Kilauea Sporting Skeet Club compact sporting clay shoot Sept. 21 at the County trap and skeet range.

Munnerlyn’s total was 78 in 100-target event, and he was followed by Milford Tabura (73) and Elton Endo (71).

The next shoot will be 9 a.m.-3:45 p.m. Oct. 26. All shotguns, ammunition, eye and ear protection must be provided by participants.

Karate tourney

in Kailua-Kona

The Kona Branch of the International Karate League will host its 10th annual I.K.L. Karate Championship from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 8 at Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.

Branches from Hilo, Paauilo, Honokaa, Waimea, North Kohala, Waikoloa, Captain Cook, Kailua-Kona, Pahala, Keaau, Oahu and California will participate.

The tournament will feature competition in kata (forms), kumite (sparring) and kobudo (weaponry), for children, teenagers and adults.
