Frank Mailani Thompson, 87, of Kainaliu died Aug. 22 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honaunau, he was a retired captain at the Captain Cook fire station. Private services held Oct. 4. Survived by daughters, Valerie Corcoran and Daphne (James) Washburn of Kainaliu, Iris (Kevin Sameshima) Thompson of Waimea, Lori (John) Weeks of Keauhou Mauka; son, Lorrin Thompson of Kainaliu; sisters, Blanche Bates of San Diego and Shirley Jones of El Toro, Calif.; sister-in-law, Dora Thompson of Honolulu; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
