The Rainbow Wahine were swept in league play for the first time since 2010 on Friday night, losing at Cal State Northridge 25-17, 25-20, 25-21.
Nikki Taylor and Kalei Greeley both finished with eight kills, but neither could crack .200 as the No. 21 Wahine (12-4, 4-1 Big West Conference) saw their 21-set winning streak snapped.
Utah State was the last league opponent to sweep Hawaii, doing so in the 2010 Western Athletic Conference final.
Danetta Boykins notched 14 kills for the Matadors (12-4, 3-1 Big West), while Casey Hinger hit .529 en route to 10 kills.
Hawaii outblocked Northridge 10-3, getting seven from Kalei Adolpho. But it was outhit .267-.223 and made six service errors while coming up with only one ace.
In a battle of heavyweights — the Wahine entered the match ranked No. 17 in the NCAA’s first RPI poll; the Matadors were 20th — UH didn’t receive typical performances from two of their heaviest hitters. Tai Manu-Olevao and Olivia Magill had six and four kills, respectively. Each matched their lowest output of the season.
UH will try to regroup Saturday at Long Beach State.

Madison Beckley shocked Hawaii with a goal with nine seconds left, carrying host UC Santa Barbara to a 2-1 victory.
UH (6-7, 1-2 Big West) recovered from an early deficit in the 63th minute when Kama Pascua bagged her fifth goal of the season, tying for the team lead.
Sara Feder also scored for the Gauchos (7-5-2, 1-2).
The Wahine, who were outshot 16-8, visit Cal Poly on Sunday.
