The U.S. Geological Survey said late Sunday about 20 people reported feeling the temblor, which occurred about 7 miles north of Naalehu at 6:43 p.m. It was recorded at a depth of 3.4 miles.
Weak shaking was reported near the epicenter. The shaking is not believed to have been strong enough to have caused damage, according to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
The Naalehu area has experienced eight earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or greater over the past 50 years, according to HVO.
