KAILUA-KONA (AP) — Up to 3 inches of snow could fall on two mountain peaks that rise from the tropical landscape of the Big Island.
The peaks of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa could have snow showers and thunderstorms on slopes above 12,000 feet.
The National Weather Service said a winter weather advisory is in effect from today at noon until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Forecasters warn the snow could cause travel problems and that visibility could be reduced to 1 mile.
The wind could gust to more than 50 miles per hour tonight, and temperatures are expected to fall into the lower 30s.
