HONOLULU (AP) — Mokulele Airlines is blaming the state for not installing signs to help travelers find a west Oahu airport.
Chief Executive Officer Ron Hansen says the airline has had a lot of no-shows because lost passengers miss their flights.
Kona-based Mokulele is the first commercial airline to offer service out of Kalaeloa Airport, a former naval air station. The airline began offering three round-trip flights a day to Kahului on July 1.
There’s no airport sign on the H-1 freeway and the road to the airport entails a series of merges and turns through some unpopulated areas.
The state Department of Transportation says it is working with the city and county and other state agencies to post directional signs.
