LIHUE, Kauai (AP) — A former Department of Land and Natural Resources enforcement manager was arraigned Tuesday on 30 counts of sexual assault.
Tarey William Kahana Low, 53, of Kapaa pleaded not guilty in 5th Circuit Court.
He is scheduled for trial Feb. 23.
A grand jury indicted Low on Oct. 9. He was arrested a day later. He is free on $500,000 bail.
The indictment charges Low with assaulting a female from June 29, 2007, through March 31, 2010. Thirteen counts say the assaults occurred when the victim was younger than 18.
Low was a Kauai police officer in the 1980s.
DLNR spokeswoman Deborah Ward says Low was hired in 1990 as a conservation resources enforcement officer. He became Kauai district manager in 2001. He retired in 2009.
