Betty June Deuser Budde, 94, of Waikoloa died Oct. 13 at Beverly Brand’s Care Home in Waikoloa. Born in Oakland, Calif., she was a government clerk and a World War II pilot for the Women Airforce Service Patrol (WASP) and was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor bestowed on a civilian, for her service. Scattering of her ashes at a later date in California. Survived by sons, James (Madeleine) Budde of Waimea, Alan (Wilda) Budde of Camarillo, Calif., and Dale (Ingrid) Budde of Neubernricht, Germany; sisters, Helen Deuser of San Leandro, Calif., and Barbara Jean Hale of Cottonwood, Calif.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Robert “Bob” Nobuo Hokama, 85, of Hilo died Oct. 15 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hilo Intermediate School teacher, member of Hilo Hooganji Mission, P & R Bowling League and U.S. Marine Corps veteran during the Korean War.
