Forget about goals, much less victories. Mere shots were hard to come by Saturday for the University of Hawaii at Hilo soccer teams.
Kristine Pasek’s goal was about all the men’s and women’s teams had to cheer about as they wrapped up their road trips in Northern California with losses to Dominican in San Rafael.
Pasek, a senior, netter her team-high sixth goal of the season, but a 2-1 setback for the Lady Vulcans (5-4-5, 2-3-3 Pacific West Conference) kept them winless in their past seven matches.
A little more than eight minutes after Pasek’s equalizer, Mariah Meza netted the go-ahead goal for the Penguins (3-11-1, 3-5-1) in the 61st minute.
The Vulcans were outshot 11-6.
The UHH men lost 1-0, with the only goal of the match coming on Vini Enriquez’s penalty kick late in the first half.
The Vulcans (6-8-1, 4-5-0) mustered just seven shots against the struggling Penguins (2-12-1, 2-7-0).
