The June 27 lava flow was about 160 yards (480 feet) from Pahoa Village Road this morning, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense.

The flow is advancing at an average rate of less than 5 yards an hour, Civil Defense said in its 8 a.m. update.

It had advanced about 90 yards in the last 24 hours.

Civil Defense said smoke conditions are moderate. Burning activity involves a variety of materials and smoke conditions may increase in some areas.

The agency is advising residents with respiratory problems to take necessary precautions and to remain indoors. Additional health advisories may be issued depending on what materials lava comes into contact with.

Pahoa Village Road between Apa‘a Street and the Post Office Road remains limited to residents only.
