Police arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly burglarizing two Hilo businesses.

At 11:09 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a burglary at a business on the 700 block of Leilani Street. They arrived to find a shattered glass door. A security video showed a man breaking the glass with a baseball bat and stealing items valued at $225.

While officers were still at the scene, police received a report of another burglary in progress on the 1400 block of Kalanianaole Avenue. The glass door at that business also was shattered and items valued at more than $2,000 had been removed. Police attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle, but he fled from the area.

Police identified the suspect as Alexander S. Bacdad. He was arrested Tuesday in Ka‘u. At 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, Bacdad was charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of theft. His bail was set at $6,500. He remains at the cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for today.
