Donald Alvin Swangel, 86, of Riverside, Calif., and formerly of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, died Oct. 25 at home. Born in Montezuma, Iowa, he operated the Leilani Bed and Breakfast in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates with his wife for nine years. Survived by wife, Carole; children, Marcia Derrick, Michael (Cora) Swangel, Judy (Don) Richards, Robert (Dagmar) Reeves, David (Dorene) Reeves, Lani (Mundus) Lomeli and Roy (Aida) Swangel; brother, Paul (Hazel) Swangel of New Sharon, Iowa; 28 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Clifford Dean Guerpo, 64, of Waimea died Oct. 19 at Kohala Hospital. Born in Honokaa, he formerly worked as a carpenter and welder for Hilton Waikoloa Village and was a member of the Pu‘ukapu Senior Baseball Team of Waimea. Ellen Minamoto Iwasaki, 78, of Hilo died Sept. 18 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kalaoa, she was a floral designer with Likeke Florist, a receptionist to Dr. Tomoguchi and Dr. Jenkins, and a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Private services held. No koden.
