Usher in the holidays with the annual celebration of Christmas in the Country at Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Festivities begin on Saturday, Nov. 22, with the opening of the traditional wreath exhibit, unique handmade ornaments for sale, demos by well known local artists, and book and print signings.

Volcano artist Dietrich Varez will sign his books and prints from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the same time, Robert Weiss will offer porch demonstrations of plein air oil painting. On Sunday, Nov. 23, Gayle Chavez will demonstrate the making of beaded jewelry from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The following weekend, on Saturday, Nov. 29, William Chillingsworth will sign copies of his new book, “‘Io Lani, The Hawaiian Hawk,” from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Christmas in the Country exhibit will run through Jan. 4. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Park entrance fees apply. For questions and further information, call the Volcano Art Center Gallery at 967-7565.

In addition to Christmas in the Country, VAC is also hosting the 2015 Preview Exhibit at VAC’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village. This special exhibit features work by artists who will be offering classes and workshops at VAC in the upcoming year. And for the first time, the exhibit will also feature work by artists who are scheduled to show at the VAC Gallery in HVNP in 2015. Come see the exhibit to find out who they are.

This preview exhibit will be open from 3-5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, and Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28-29.
