This year’s edition of the annual “Fabulously Fun Fundraiser” benefiting Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary — Howling Holidays — will be presented from 7-11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Hawaiian Paradise Park Activity Center on Maku‘u Drive, just past 17th Street.
Registration for the popular dog walk starts at 7 a.m. with music by Dennis &Christy Soares, followed by games, contests, lucky-number drawings, a silent auction, dog agility demonstrations, search-and-rescue demonstrations, frisbee competition, a Comedy Canines Dog Show, food by Hilo Coffee Mill and various vendors.
This year’s eighth annual HPP Howling Holidays is supported by local businesses donating special items for the silent auction, as well as fantastic prizes for entrants who raise the most sponsorship dollars for the fundraising walk.
Walkers who raise the most sponsorship dollars with a minimum of $1,000 win the “Superprize,” a three-night stay for two at the Grand Wailea Hotel on Maui, including a whale-watching tour and tickets to the museum and the aquarium.
Walkers with the most sponsorships after that will win the first prize, a deluxe ocean-view room for two at the Hilton Waikoloa. Blue Hawaiian Helicopters is donating a “Circle of Fire” tour for two as the second prize and Skyline Eco-Adventures is offering a zipline adventure for two as third prize.
How does this work?
You decide to walk your dog at the Howling Holidays fundraiser. There is a $10 donation for the first dog and $5 for each additional dog.
Before event day, you ask all your friends, family members, neighbors and business associates to sponsor you and your dog-walking companion with $10, $20, $50, $100 or more, and the more you raise to benefit the animals at Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary, the closer you get to winning one of the four fantastic prizes.
“Raise money for your team, come and walk your dog, win a fantastic prize! It’s that easy and fun,” said Rainbow Friends founder Mary Rose Krijgsman. “Doggie costume and owner look-alike contests, doggie games, demonstrations and a frisbee competition fill out the morning event.”
“Come enjoy the music and have your dogs photographed with Santa, enjoy ono food by Hilo Coffee Mill while making a contribution to the Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary, a no-kill facility in Kurtistown, home to 75 dogs and 250 cats,” she said.
