Darrel Aiban, 63, of Pahala died Nov. 9 at the Kona Community Hospital. Born in Pahala, he was a security guard at the Ka‘u Hospital, a member of New Hope Church in Hilo and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Friends may call at noon at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona for an inurnment. Casual attire. Survived by companion, Merle Saplan of Naalehu; brother, Glenn (Ona) Aniban of Pahala; sisters, Charlene (Scott) Crutcher, Donna-Lynn (Gary) Duguran, and Tessie (Melvin) DePeralta, all of Kailua-Kona; several aunts and uncles; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Aisek Laurdin, 60, of Mountain View died Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pohnpei, Micronesia, he was an employee of Island Carpentry and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Kazue Makino, 88, of Keaau died Nov. 12 at her residence. Born in Kapoho, she was a retired salesperson at Hawaii Sales &Surplus, worked at Yamada Furniture and was a member of the Puna Hongwanji Mission. Private services held. No flowers, no koden.
