The second annual Kahilu Theatre Masquerade Ball is Friday, Dec. 5, at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Grand Ballroom.
This will be a night of hot gypsy jazz, featuring music by the Hot Club of Hulaville. The gala starts at 6 p.m. with hosted libations, pupus, and a silent auction; followed by dinner with food stations by Hilton chefs; then a live auction, and dancing to the music of the Hot Club of Hulaville.
The Masquerade Ball is a callback to the swanky, swinging parties which were hosted by the Kahilu’s founder, the late actor-director Richard Smart, in the theater’s gilded heyday.
The upcoming festivities will include gypsy tents with fortune telling, tattoos and tarot, with belly dancers and magicians roaming the room. Everyone is invited to don a mask and glamorous gypsy-inspired attire and celebrate with the glitterati for a full night of surprise and delight.
The Hot Club of Hulaville is: Duane Padilla on violin; Sonny Silva on guitar; Ernie Provencher on bass; and Willow Chang-Alléon on vocals. The band won the Hoku for Best Jazz Album in 2010.
All proceeds will benefit Kahilu Theatre Foundation, the nonprofit entity responsible for operating the Kahilu Theatre in Kamuela.
Individual tickets are $175 per person, tables of 10 are $1,500, and sponsorship tables of ten are available at the following levels: Sapphire $3,000, Ruby $5,000, and Diamond $10,000. Tickets and tables can be purchased at www.kahilutheatre.org, by calling 885-6868, or at the Kahilu box office, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
