In celebration of global Geographic Information System (GIS) Day this month, Maui Economic Development Board’s Women in Technology (WIT) will provide free GIS training for students and teachers in Hilo and Kona the first week in December.
WIT is partnering with global industry leader ESRI to bring the powerful science and capabilities of GIS mapping software into local K-12 schools.
The Big Island sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the state Department of Education Annex at 450 Waianuenue Ave., and the same time Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the NELHA Center at 73-4460 Queen Kaahumanu Highway in Kailua-Kona.
PDE3 credits are available. Registration can be completed online at www.womenintech.com/esri-gis-training-in-big-island.
Charlie Fitzpatrick, ESRI K-12 Education Manager, will share his geospatial expertise to help participants visualize and interpret geographic data, as well as relationships and patterns that can transform and improve communities. The software tool can be integrated into every subject matter.
Workshop openings are still available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is required.
