Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving.
The students of the Leadership Training Program at Honokaa High School are pleased to announce the date and time of their annual community Thanksgiving dinner.
The dinner — hosted and sponsored in part by Honokaa High School — is planned for 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the school cafeteria.
This Thanksgiving dinner is one of several service projects planned and implemented for the community through the students’ practice of student leadership. The event provides a free turkey dinner to all who attend.
Turkeys purchased with donations to the event will be prepared by the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. There will be entertainment and door prizes for those in attendance.
The event serves as an opportunity for the school and community to come together for a celebration of thanks.
They were able to distribute more than 900 turkey dinners during last year’s event, and they would like to express gratitude to all those who contributed to this dinner in the past.
Without the generosity of these community members, this dinner would not have been possible.
If you are interested in making a donation for this year’s dinner, contact Angella Brandt at angella_brandt@notes.k12.hi.us.

Come and enjoy a slack key performance with Jeff Peterson.
Recognized as one of Hawaii’s most versatile musicians, Peterson is at the heart of today’s Hawaiian music scene.
His passion for the guitar has allowed him to shine as a solo artist and has given him the opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of artists from Hawaii, the mainland and abroad. His focus on slack key guitar, classical and jazz music has allowed him to develop a unique and transcendent voice on the guitar while being deeply rooted in the traditions of his Hawaiian heritage.
Born on Maui, Peterson was introduced to the rich heritage of Hawaiian music by his father, a paniolo on Haleakala Ranch. He began studying guitar on his own, his interest broadened and he developed a wide variety of musical genres in which the guitar plays a part.
This 45-minute program is suitable for all ages. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
There are two performances — 1:30 p.m. Monday at Laupahoehoe Public and School Library and 5 p.m. Monday at the Honokaa Public Library.

Honokaa Elementary School Student Body Council is proud to announce the start of its Race To The Top with a Box Tops Collection Competition.
Last year, the council met its goal of 16,000 box tops, which totaled $1,661.80. Each box top is worth 10 cents and goes toward the student body council budget.
The council uses that money to plan and fund activities schoolwide.
This year, the goal is to collect 18,000 box tops by Feb. 13. That is 12 weeks of box tops collecting.
Please help the members of the student body council reach their goal by collecting box tops from participating products.
Just like last year, the council will have a school-wide contest to see which class collects the most box tops. Last year, the winning class won by just 42 box tops, so every box top accounts.
This year, the winning class will earn an ice cream sundae party featuring chocolate and vanilla ice cream and tons of delicious toppings
There are many ways to turn in box tops. You may use the collection sheet available at the school office or you may turn them in using Ziploc bags.
Either way, please make sure your student’s name and homeroom are marked clearly. The collection sheet is the quickest and most accurate way to make sure your child’s homeroom teacher gets credit for the box tops you turn in.
Box tops may be turned into your homeroom teacher or to Chelsea Yagong in her box at the main office.
If you have questions, call Yagong at 775-8820.
Happy collecting.
