Friends may call at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2nd ward in Kailua-Kona. Funeral service at noon. Burial will follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Bernard “Jim” James Powers, 76, of Honokaa died Nov. 16 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born in Toledo, Ohio, he was a retired carpenter with the former Hamakua Sugar Company, member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa and Hamakua Country Golf Club, was a coach for the “Rookies” girls baseball team in Honokaa and an umpire for the Hongwanji Softball League.
