Hawaii Nei’s celebration of our Big Island native species continues into December with a holiday reception on Friday, Dec. 5, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in conjunction with the annual Downtown Hilo Red and White Night.
Entertainment will be provided and light refreshments will be served. There will be holiday music performed by HUKA Kanikapila Ukulele Group from 6:15-7 p.m.
Along with the art exhibit and activities, there will be a do-it-yourself printing station, using block print stamps of native species to create holiday gift wrapping paper for visitors to take with them. The exhibit’s last day is Dec. 18.
Hawaii Nei has partnered with the Volcano Art Center, which will be announcing its selection of artists the VAC’s invitational exhibit in May. Chosen artists will be recognized at the reception and invited to show new work pertaining to native species in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This event is free and open to the public to enjoy.
Wailoa Center is an agency of the Division of State Parks, Department of Land and Natural Resources, and is free and opened to the public Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Wednesday from noon to 4:30 p.m. It is normally closed Saturday, Sunday and on state holidays.
