The University of Hawaii was matched up against Duke and sent to the Pacific Northwest for the opening round of the NCAA Division I women’s volleyball tournament.

The University of Hawaii was matched up against Duke and sent to the Pacific Northwest for the opening round of the NCAA Division I women’s volleyball tournament.

The Rainbow Wahine (21-6), the Big West runner-up, received an at-large selection Sunday and will travel to the Seattle for the third time in five years.

While Hawaii earned its 22nd consecutive trip to the tournament, the Blue Devils (22-7), an Atlantic Coast Conference at-large selection, are making their eighth consecutive trip. The winner of their match at 3 p.m. HST Friday will take on either Washington or America East champion New Hampshire in the second round Saturday.

The host Huskies were ranked fifth in the latest coach’s poll.

The last time UH headed to Seattle for the NCAA tournament was 2012, and it lost to Washington in the second round.
