John Owens, 89, of Pahoa died Nov. 21 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Brownsville, Texas, he was a retired U.S. Navy Seabees welder, and member of the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and Masons. Official Navy burial at sea to take place. Survived by wife, Mary J. Owens of Pahoa; son, Clifford E. Owens of Missouri; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
