No. 1 in … cost

No. 1 in … cost

Well, folks, we are No. 1 again.

We are No. 1 for having the worst roads and highways in the country. We are also No. 1 in having the highest government administration cost per mile on roads and highways in the country — by far.

What is wrong with this picture? We pay more and get less. Where is this money going?

Digital holiday

It’s sure easy to agree with William James (Tribune-Herald, Your Views, Nov. 28) that the true meaning of Thanksgiving has been distorted.

Today, there is no stereotypical Norman Rockwell caricature of a thankful family sitting together, ready to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.

Rockwell’s contemporary Thanksgiving depiction would now be of a blended family at the table with mobile devices in hand, texting, tweeting, Facebooking and firing off instant messages to their “friends.” No conversation needed here.

Then, when stuffed, a retreat to separate rooms and individual, large-screen TVs and solitary videogame interaction.

But, there could be hope. Maybe there was actual conversation in the SUV as family members determined who landed the best midnight door-buster deal.

Over this, the Pilgrims have good cause to weep.

Allow pets, please

I would like to appeal to all landlords and property managers to allow tenants who own pets.

Before you stop reading, as all the horror stories come to mind, know that the state Legislature has allowed for extra deposit to be collected from the pet owners in House Bill 1316. Reading through the testimony online from the Hawaii Association of Realtors, they are in favor of this.

There is now no foundation for excluding pet owners. I’m calling out (local property management companies) and the countless other individuals who have turned away my family.

I’m sorry you’ve had irresponsible pet owners in the past, but now that I can financially back potential destruction by my pets, I would love to rent your beautiful homes and apartments.
